Wordworks is a South African non-profit organisation that focuses on early language and literacy development in the first eight years of children’s lives. Since 2005 they have worked in under-resourced communities with adults best positioned to positively impact young children’s language and literacy development – parents and caregivers, family and community members, home-visitors, early childhood development practitioners and Grade R to Grade 3 teachers. They are working collaboratively to grow an informed, capable, resourced and motivated network of schools, organisations and institutions that promote the importance of, and work effectively for the improvement of, children’s early language and literacy, through their association with their programmes and materials. Wordworks offers training, resources and support for partners who wish to use their early language and literacy programmes in their own networks. Their programmes all include messaging about the importance of language for literacy development and the need to build children’s home language in the early years as a foundation for the acquisition of a second language. They advocate for children to have access to multilingual, language rich stories and books, as well as meaningful experiences with print. They also know that letter-sound knowledge and phonological awareness are key predictors of whether children learn to read and write, and have developed resources and guidelines to support these important foundations for literacy. I completed my matric in 1999 and my mother advised me to study food production since I loved cooking, I did it for her though it was a course that I never dreamt of studying. I graduated successfully and worked for 2 years as a chef, got tired of cooking, I dodged that career and went into studying computers, worked as a receptionist and studied Human resources at the same time and obtained a diploma. I worked for a courier company as a Human Resources assistant. In 2012, I moved to South Africa, Cape Town when I got married, joined a Mobile Money company called Zoona with operations in Zambia, and I worked there for 5 years as a support agent. Zoona is an African Fintech company founded in 2009 with the vision of helping communities thrive. Since launching, it created over 2,500 jobs in Zambia and Malawi, empowered over 1,000 entrepreneurs to start their own business and allowed them to reach earnings of over $10 million. I enjoyed working for this company because we really helped girl child prevail. Apart from the above, I am a lover of interior designing, and my wish is to have one of the most successful Interior business one day, through my passion for interior, I designed my sister’s Kitchen area, how amazing!!! I love cooking and baking (especially Cake pops), they are my favorites!!! I love adventure, gardening and working out too, I am a gym freak. The college which would become the University of Chester was founded in 1839 by such pioneers as the 19th-century prime ministers William Gladstone and the Earl of Derby, and a future Archbishop of Canterbury. El proyecto surgió con la intención de ofrecer a los profesores de español un espacio en el que pudieran adquirir una formación detallada sobre las necesidades de los alumnos y herramientas útiles para afrontar la realidad del aula. El enfoque de todos los cursos está orientado a la formación práctica con la que a los fundadores, quienes también son profesores de ELE, les habría gustado contar cuando empezaron, por lo que su filosofía se basa en una formación de profes para profes. En ELEInternacional ofrecen cursos certificados de formación online para profesores de ELE que necesitan ampliar o renovar sus conocimientos para dar clases de español. Los cursos universitarios, de 150 horas, están certificados por la Universidad Europea Miguel de Cervantes (UEMC) y son: - Curso de enseñanza de ELE general. - Curso de enseñanza de ELE a niños y adolescentes. - Curso de enseñanza de español en línea. También se encuentran disponibles cursos propios de formación de 50 horas y cursos universitarios de actualización docente de 15 horas de duración. I worked for 43 Air School as a receptionist for 5 year and whileI was there I used to help out at the Admin area and at Marketing department, and that had lead me on having the interes on becoming 1 of the Managers but unfortunately we got retrenched. And I went and work at Lendcor group as a Sales consultant for 1 year 6 months same we got retrenched. I am a God fearing individual, and I’m also a father to two beautiful kids, a boy and a girl. I worked for Tekkie Town as a Sales Assistant, and I was chosen as the best Sales person for the entire Mpumalanga province. I also worked for the Department of agriculture as a Data capture. I have a passion for sports, football is one of my favourites and one day I wish I can own a soccer team. While I was in high school, I always wanted to be a lawyer, but due to financial constraints, I could not become one. My interest in the justice system came when I realised that the late former president Mr Nelson Mandela was also a lawyer representing his people. I wish one day I could give back to my community and its people because my community gave us the likes of the late Steve Bantu Biko, one of the BCM Members who fought for the people of South Africa. My community is one of the underdeveloped communities of this country, but I know that one day all of this will change because I know that with education anything is possible. When a child is educated, communities will change for the better and if one community changes, then our country will change for the better as well and poverty will be no more. Education topped with one’s perseverance is the key to a bright future for all. With this pandemic people have lost their jobs and in some households you find that no one is working and people resort to drugs and alcohol, some get depressed to a point of taking their own lives. If we can start developing jobs for people, our continent would become a better place for us all. Being part of an initiative that supports the empowerment of those less privileged is one of my greatest wishes. I will be glad if all my wishes do come through because nothing is as important as education and hard work, and an educated country means a better world for us all.

En sus quinientos años de historia desde su fundación como Colegio de Santa María de Jesús a comienzos del siglo XVI, la Universidad de Sevilla ha atravesado diferentes etapas. En ellas hay momentos, como la crisis del siglo XIX o la Guerra Civil y posterior dictadura franquista, que han destacado por la dificultad para ejercer la docencia. No obstante, son mayores los periodos positivos de la US, en los que ha logrado posicionarse como universidad de referencia en todas sus funciones y afrontar con éxito la adaptación al Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior. Durante el siglo XVI (1505), el Papa Julio II otorgó al Colegio la facultad de impartir grados en Teología, Filosofía, Derecho, Medicina y Artes. Sin embargo, no fue hasta 1551 cuando el Concejo de la ciudad distinguió a la fundación creada por el Arcediano Maese Rodrigo Fernández de Santaella como Universidad Oficial. El Plan de Estudios de Olavide, de 1768, significó la materialización de la Reforma Ilustrada para la Universidad de Sevilla. Es en este momento cuando nace la idea de la Universidad como servicio público y se imparten enseñanzas como las Matemáticas, propias de la preocupación de la época por los estudios de las materias de ciencia. Esta etapa supuso el origen de la concepción de la universidad moderna, aunque este modelo no se consolidó hasta el siglo XIX. A lo largo del siglo XIX la situación de la enseñanza en España sufrió una profunda crisis, fruto del enfrentamiento entre los intereses conservadores y liberales por el control sobre la cultura y la educación. Durante este periodo se pone en marcha el llamado Plan Pidal de 1845, que somete a todas las universidades a un mismo ordenamiento jurídico. Se culmina entonces el proceso de centralización y la pérdida definitiva de las antiguas autonomías. Aun así, poco después se pondría fin al acuerdo, ya que en 1851, con la firma del Concordato con la Santa Sede, se devuelve la enseñanza al dominio eclesiástico. Más adelante, con la Revolución de 1868, se declara libre el ejercicio de la enseñanza en todos los niveles educativos y se suprimen las asignaturas de Doctrina Cristiana, Historia Sagrada, Religión, Moral Cristiana, etcétera. Los intentos progresistas quedaron frenados debido a la Guerra Civil y la posterior dictadura franquista. En concreto, se pone en marcha la Ley de Ordenación Universitaria de 1943, que pese a contemplar un cierto deseo de autonomía significó un férreo control ministerial e ideológico. En 1948 la Universidad trasladó su sede a la antigua Real Fábrica de Tabacos, un magnífico edificio trazado por el ingeniero Van der Beer en el reinado de Fernando VI. En la actualidad, este edificio sigue alojando el Rectorado y las facultades de Geografía e Historia y de Filología. También en este siglo, durante la década de los sesenta, se crearon las Escuelas Técnicas Superiores de Arquitectura e Ingenieros Industriales. En la década siguiente se fundaron los estudios de Económicas y Farmacia; se dividió la Facultad de Ciencias, que dio lugar a las facultades de Biología, Física, Matemáticas y Química, y se creó el Colegio Universitario de la Rábida. La implantación de nuevos estudios vino acompañada por la descentralización geográfica de la Universidad, mediante la apertura de sedes en las provincias de Badajoz, Cádiz y Córdoba, de las que posteriormente surgirán las actuales Universidades. Con la llegada de la democracia, la Constitución de 1978 revisa el tradicional régimen centralista de la Universidad española, reconociendo la autonomía de las Universidades. Al mismo tiempo, la nueva organización territorial del Estado ha supuesto una distribución de competencias universitarias entre los distintos poderes públicos. Gracias a la Ley de Reforma Universitaria (L.R.U.) aprobada en 1983, se consagra la autonomía universitaria como un derecho fundamental. Esta norma-marco contempló la Universidad como un servicio público referido a los intereses generales, garantizando la participación en su gobierno de las diversas fuerzas sociales. La Declaración de Bolonia sienta las bases para la construcción de un Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior, que se organiza alrededor de los principios de calidad, movilidad, diversidad y competitividad. Este plan se orienta hacia la consecución de dos objetivos estratégicos: incrementar el empleo en la Unión Europea y la conversión del sistema Europeo de Formación Superior en un polo de atracción para estudiantes y profesores de otras partes del mundo. Todas las titulaciones de la Universidad de Sevilla están adaptadas al Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior y todas han obtenido la acreditación de las agencias nacionales y autonómicas, que avala un alto grado de calidad. Asimismo, en el año de la plena convergencia con la Europa del Conocimiento, la Universidad de Sevilla fue reconocida como Campus de Excelencia Internacional. En la actualidad, la Universidad de Sevilla ha puesto en marcha un Plan Estratégico con el que se sientan las bases para una institución más abierta, flexible, innovadora, inteligente e integrada en la ciudad. En este campus se imparte los títulos adscritos a la Facultad de Ciencias de la Vida y de la Naturaleza. El Edificio Joaquín María López es la sede de los Institutos Nebrija. En él se imparten los Ciclos Formativos de Grado Superior, las asignaturas transversales del Instituto de Competencias Profesionales y las asignaturas del Instituto de Lenguas Modernas. Alberga también los programas de intercambio internacional para impartición del español como lengua extranjera. El Centro Universitario San Rafael-Nebrija se ubica dentro del recinto del Hospital San Rafael. Todo el complejo está situado en la privilegiada zona de Concha Espina, muy próxima al estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Es un edificio de nueva construcción que cuenta con las instalaciones propias de una moderna institución universitaria con una avanzada dotación tecnológica para la docencia. La Escuela Andaluza de Salud Pública se crea por acuerdo de gobierno el 2 de mayo de 1985. Se constituye como empresa pública, con carácter de sociedad anónima y capital fundacional íntegro de la Junta de Andalucía. Se inaugura el 19 de julio de 1985 quedando adscrita a la Consejería de Salud y Familias. Los órganos de dirección son la Junta General de Accionistas, el Consejo de Administración, y el Consejo de Dirección encabezado por el Director de la EASP. Es centro colaborador de la Organización Mundial de la Salud y de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud. Es miembro de las principales asociaciones internacionales de escuelas de salud pública y de gestión sanitaria tanto en Europa como en Latinoamérica: EHMA (European Health Management Association), ASPHER (Association of School of Public Health in the European Region) y ALAESP (Asociación Latinoamericana de Escuelas de Salud Pública). Desde 1988 existe un acuerdo con la Universidad de Granada por el que esta reconoce como propios cursos Máster y Expertos impartidos por la EASP. Gran número de instituciones y universidades nacionales y de otros países mantienen también convenios de colaboración con la EASP. Sus principales clientes en la comunidad autónoma andaluza son la Consejería de Salud y Familias y el Servicio Andaluz de Salud. La Escuela trabaja también para sociedades profesionales, hospitales y servicios regionales de salud de toda España así como para terceros países a través de proyectos de la Unión Europea, la Organización Panamericana de la Salud y el Banco Mundial. En la Escuela se integran, a través de sus proyectos de Docencia, Consultoría e Investigación, los enfoques de salud pública y de gestión, a través de los cuales: Genera nuevos conocimientos y los disemina entre los miembros de las organizaciones sanitarias. Desarrolla un proceso continuo de actualización del conocimiento en respuesta a las variaciones en las demandas sociales y a la evolución de los sistemas sanitarios. Identifica los conocimientos relevantes existentes en las organizaciones y los flujos de información necesarios para su transmisión. Crea espacios de intercambio y circulación de la información y facilita la transferencia entre las personas que la necesitan y las que la generan. Materializa el conocimiento creando productos, servicios y sistemas e implementándolos en las organizaciones.

La historia de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid ha estado jalonada de grandes nombres de las ciencias y las letras. La UAM nace en 1968, junto a la de Barcelona y la del Bilbao, con un rasgo distintivo que la convierte en un centro de educación superior muy diferente a los existentes en ese momento en España: una unión plena de docencia e investigación, en la que las enseñanzas teórica y experimental van siempre de la mano en todas las ramas del conocimiento. Con este espíritu, el nuevo espacio universitario movilizó desde sus inicios a un gran número de profesores y profesoras con trayectorias de enorme solvencia. Las clases comenzaron el 24 de octubre de 1968, con 1.173 alumnos matriculados y 60 docentes. En un principio, la UAM se creó con cinco facultades: Derecho, Filosofía y Letras, Ciencias Políticas, Económicas y Comerciales; Ciencias y Medicina. Al no contar con un campus propio, los primeros cursos se impartieron en distintas ubicaciones de Madrid. El 9 de noviembre de 1970 se inauguró la nueva Facultad de Medicina en el entorno de la ciudad sanitaria La Paz, estrenando con ello un nuevo sistema de enseñanza basado en la integración de la teoría y la práctica clínica en hospitales públicos. Un año después se inauguró el Campus de Cantoblanco, con las facultades de Filosofía y Letras, Derecho, Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales y Ciencias; a las que se sumarían la Facultad de Formación de Profesorado y la Escuela Politécnica Superior. El modelo de campus se inspiró en las universidades norteamericanas: alejado de la ciudad y con amplias zonas verdes. El Campus de Cantoblanco nació con la vocación de facilitar una experiencia de vida universitaria completa, que incluyese no solo actividades académicas y de investigación, sino también todo tipo de servicios (servicio médico, biblioteca central, comedor, polideportivo, guardería, colegio infantil…). Hoy alberga, además, una enorme variedad de recursos, entre los que figuran desde museos a sala de exposiciones, pasando por una amplia oferta de instalaciones deportivas. La UAM tuvo desde sus orígenes una vocación humboltiana a imagen de la Universidad de Berlín. Por eso, mantuvo desde sus inicios una estrecha colaboración con el Centro Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). Dicha colaboración ha sido y es uno de los exponentes más claros de la decidida apuesta de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid por la investigación y ha tenido una enorme importancia en la definición del modelo docente de esta universidad desde el momento de su fundación. La Universidad Autónoma de Madrid ha ido así configurándose a lo largo de estos años como una institución de referencia a nivel nacional e internacional, ocupando puestos relevantes en los rankings de excelencia académica e investigadora, empleabilidad y sostenibilidad. La Universidad de Santiago de Compostela quiere ser reconocida como una universidad de prestigio, académicamente solvente y con excelencia investigadora, al servicio del desarrollo económico, social y cultural de la sociedad gallega, ejemplar en la gestión de sus recursos y participada democráticamente por los miembros de su comunidad alrededor de un proyecto universitario compartido. La Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, constituida por los campus de Santiago y Lugo, se estructura en departamentos, facultades, escuelas, institutos universitarios de investigación y escuelas de doctorado. Asimismo, cuenta con diferentes servicios de gestión y administración, de apoyo a las labores docentes e investigadoras, y otros de asistencia a la comunidad universitaria.

La Universidad de Navarra es una universidad de inspiración cristiana, promovida por san Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, fundador del Opus Dei. Tiene como misión buscar y transmitir la verdad, contribuir a la formación académica, cultural y personal de sus estudiantes; promover la investigación científica y la actividad asistencial; ofrecer adecuadas posibilidades de desarrollo a sus profesores y empleados; y realizar una amplia labor de extensión cultural y promoción social, con una clara finalidad de servicio. Entre las funciones primordiales de la Universidad de Navarra está: Impartir enseñanzas universitarias en el ámbito de diversas ciencias, conferir los grados académicos correspondientes y facilitar a los alumnos los medios adecuados -recursos didácticos, biblioteca, información sobre becas y ayudas económicas- para que puedan realizar con provecho sus estudios. Promover la investigación científica en los distintos campos del saber, en beneficio de la labor docente y como forma de aportar conocimiento a la sociedad y de favorecer la innovación y el desarrollo. Contribuir a la formación de los alumnos mediante el asesoramiento individualizado, con propuestas encaminadas a la adquisición de competencias profesionales y hábitos personales, que estimulen el desarrollo de la personalidad en todas sus dimensiones: culturales, artísticas, religiosas, deportivas y de solidaridad. Mantener relación con los graduados de la Universidad, a través de actividades de formación continuada, y de otras iniciativas culturales y sociales de Alumni. Y organizar enseñanzas de actualización y de especialización para graduados universitarios, de acuerdo con las tendencias y necesidades de las diferentes profesiones. La inspiración cristiana de la Universidad se manifiesta en el deseo de fidelidad a la Iglesia y a su Magisterio, en la reflexión sobre sus enseñanzas, en el respeto de los principios cristianos en la investigación, en la promoción de la dignidad y los derechos de la persona y en el sentido de servicio que procura imprimir en las actividades universitarias. Dentro de los planes de estudio se imparten asignaturas, seminarios y talleres que ofrecen a los alumnos la oportunidad de plantearse esas grandes cuestiones de la existencia, así como los fundamentos éticos y deontológicos de su profesión.

Alfonso IX de León quiso tener estudios superiores en su reino y por ello creó en 1218 las ‘scholas Salamanticae’, germen de la actual Universidad de Salamanca que se acerca ahora a cumplir los 800 años de historia ininterrumpida creando, promocionando y divulgando el conocimiento. Alfonso IX fue un hombre ilustrado y adelantado a su tiempo, no solo por haber creado la Universidad de Salamanca, sino también por otras acciones como plantear las primeras Cortes que permitían la participación de diversos sectores de la población además de los habituales nobles. Este primer Estudio contó, según el decreto de 1254, con un maestro en leyes, otro en decretos, dos de decretales, dos de lógica, dos de gramática, dos de física o medicina, uno de órgano, un apotecario, un bibliotecario y dos conservadores. Así, la Universidad de Salamanca se convirtió, junto con París, Oxford y Bolonia en una de las primeras universidades europeas y hoy en día es la única española que ha mantenido su actividad a través de los siglos. La Universidad de Salamanca cuenta con un importante patrimonio material en forma de edificios históricos y espacios emblemáticos que aún se encuentran en activo y reciben cada día la visita de cientos de personas, bien porque quieran apreciar su valor artístico o histórico, o bien porque tengan que realizar alguna actividad académica en ellos. Destacan especialmente el Edificio de Escuelas Mayores con su fachada plateresca, en el interior del cual se encuentra la Biblioteca General Histórica con 2.774 manuscritos, 483 incunables y alrededor de 62.000 volúmenes impresos entre los siglos XVI y XVIII. Visita obligada es también el Patio de Escuelas Menores que alberga en una de sus salas la conocida pintura del ‘Cielo de Salamanca’, obra atribuida a Fernando Gallego que recoge temas astronómicos y astrológicos. Son obras de arte y reflejos de la historia de la institución. Una historia cargada de tradiciones donde destacan, por ejemplo, las tradicionales ceremonias de investidura de los doctores honoris causa con su tradicional y colorido desfile de togados, la celebración del patrón Santo Tomás o las aperturas solemnes de curso en las que el rector repasa los principales retos que aborda cada ejercicio la institución. En la actualidad, la Universidad de Salamanca sigue manteniendo su gran capacidad de atracción y tiene un alumnado estable en torno a los 30.000 estudiantes. Cuenta para atenderles con nueve campus distribuidos entre Salamanca, Ávila, Zamora, Béjar y Villamayor entre los que se reparten las 26 facultades y escuelas superiores y los 12 centros de investigación que abarcan aspectos tan variados como las biociencias o el láser, pasando por desarrollos agroalimentarios, las neurociencias, los estudios de historia o la investigación básica, entre otros. A ellos se unen los centros dedicados a estrechar vínculos académicos y culturales con otros países y culturas como el Centro Cultural Hispano Japonés, el Centro de Estudios Brasileños o el Instituto de Estudios de Iberoamérica, donde el continuo movimiento de profesores y estudiantes mantiene los lazos y crea nuevas perspectivas de futuro en las alianzas establecidas. Otro de los rasgos distintivos de la Universidad es la enseñanza del Español que atrae a miles de estudiantes extranjeros en los distintos programas educativos desarrollados en uno de los mayores centros de formación para extranjeros de prestigio mundial, la entidad Cursos Internacionales de la Universidad de Salamanca. Desde Cursos Internacionales se elaboran desde hace años los Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) y, recientemente, un acuerdo firmado con el Instituto Cervantes, la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México y la Universidad de Buenos Aires, ha hecho que la Universidad de Salamanca lidere, junto a ellas, el desarrollo del primer certificado digital del español (SIELE) que podrá realizarse desde cualquier parte del mundo y que llevará la certificación del estudio salmantino como aval a su validez.
